THE STORY
Circumstances of death
On Sept. 11, 1975, three armed robbers held up a bank in Dublin. Colleague Reynolds, off duty, gave chase, accompanied by his wife Vera and daughter Emer. The pursuit reached St. Anne's Park in Raheny, where the robbers abandoned their car. Colleague Reynolds, who was unarmed, gave chase on foot, catching one of the robbers and dragging him to the ground. One of the other robbers then demanded that Garda Reynolds release his accomplice. When he did not do so, the robber shot his colleague in the head.
