THE STORY
Circumstances of death
On January 27, 1990, the colleague and another colleague investigated property damage at the Carlow Lodge Hotel. At Morterstown, Kilkenny Road, Carlow, the two colleagues got out of the patrol car to speak to three witnesses about the incident. A vehicle coming from the direction of Kilkenny collided with the members of the group. Garda McMahon suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
