THE STORY
Circumstances of death
On July 21, 1999, a man entered the lobby of Tallaght Garda Station and doused himself with gasoline. Sergeant Callanan attempted to disarm the man. The man then directed the gasoline at Sergeant Callanan and set him on fire, whereupon Sergeant Callanan died from the injuries sustained.
